Camps for CAA application: Shantanu to conduct them from Wednesday | Kolkata News – Times of India

People will set up camps from Wednesday to apply under CAA: Shantanu

Kolkata: Camp will be held on BongaonThe facility of submitting applications in Thakurbari will start from Wednesday. Application Union Minister under Citizenship Amendment Act Shantanu Thakur He said this while addressing the Matua Mahasangha meeting in Bagda on Sunday. He said that if NRC is implemented in the country then the citizenship certificates given to the applicants will prove useful.
Interestingly, by-elections are being held in four assembly constituencies, including Matua-dominated Bagda and Ranaghat (South), on Wednesday. Thakur’s cousin Madhuparna, who is the daughter of Trinamool MP Mamata Bala Thakur, is contesting from Bagda.
“A lot of people are submitting their applications under this scheme. CAAThakur said, “People who need our help will come to the camps being organised by us from Wednesday. Those who want to apply under the Act can submit their applications. Some people are still being mislead about the Act.”
With the CAA issue looming over the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool successfully challenged the Centre’s imposition of CAA rules ahead of the polls, alleging that applying for citizenship would require people to give up their existing rights that allow them to vote and avail state social schemes. Trinamool alleges that the CAA is a prelude to the NRC. The TMC also criticises the fact that multiple documents are being forced on applicants to apply under the CAA.
Thakur said, “I will explain to you why this certificate is important. If you do not apply, you will not have a certificate. If the government implements NRC in the future, you will not have to worry as you already have the certificate. No one can throw you out of the country under NRC. Matuas will never come under NRC as they will have a certificate from the government under CAA.”
