Bangalore: A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus caught fire in Bengaluru this morning. There are no reports of any casualties in the incident and all the passengers on board were immediately evacuated by the driver. Fire engines immediately reached the spot to douse the fire. The bus belongs to Koramangala depot.

BMTC sources said that when the driver turned on the ignition of the car on MG Road, the engine caught fire. According to the NDTV report, prima facie it seems that the engine had overheated.

There were 30 passengers in the bus at the time of the fire, but the driver was alert and he took everyone out in time and informed the fire department.

Senior BMTC officials are investigating the cause of the fire. BMTC sources said that appropriate action will be taken after the report is prepared.

Rain causes chaos in vehicles and buses

Continuous heavy rains for three hours caused a mess on the elevated expressway at Ballari Road, resulting in several vehicles, including a luxury car and BMTC buses, getting damaged.

The heavy rains caused temporary flooding on the flyover, making it difficult for motorists to move on the waterlogged road. Traffic police were present at the spot and were using umbrellas to regulate vehicular traffic, reports Deccan Herald.

The rains not only affected north Bengaluru but also other parts of the city. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre reported that most areas received the much-needed rain, but its intensity was low.

As light rain continued for several hours, motorists were stranded and had to take shelter in metro stations, bus stands and under buildings.
