NTA is working on declaring CUET UG 2024 results, says UGC chairman

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar announced that the date for the release of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG results will be announced soon. The results of this crucial exam, which serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate courses, were initially scheduled to be released by June 30. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet given any update on the matter.

The delayed declaration of CUET results is also expected to impact the academic calendar of universities.

UGC chairman said, “NTA is working on CUET results and will announce the date soon.”

The delay in declaration of results coincides with the ongoing controversies over alleged irregularities in various competitive exams like NEET and NET. For the first time, the exam conducted in hybrid mode was abruptly cancelled in Delhi the night before, citing logistical issues. Subsequently, the exam was rescheduled and held later in the national capital.

The NTA had earlier said that the third edition of CUET-UG would run for seven days without score normalisation, as all exams were conducted in a single shift. Exams for 15 out of 63 subjects were conducted in pen-and-paper mode, while exams for the remaining 48 subjects were held in computer-based mode.

Over 13 lakh candidates registered for CUET 2024

This year, over 13.4 lakh candidates had registered for the common entrance test aimed at seeking admission to undergraduate courses in 261 central, state, deemed and private universities.

During the inaugural edition of the exam in 2022, technical issues plagued the exam. Additionally, due to subjects being administered in multiple shifts, score normalization was necessary during result declarations.

Amid investigations into alleged irregularities in the NEET medical entrance exam and the PhD entrance exam NET, the Centre recently sacked NTA Director General Subodh Singh and constituted a high-level panel headed by former ISRO chief R. Radhakrishnan. The panel’s job is to ensure transparent, smooth and equitable administration of exams under the NTA.

The NEET is currently under investigation for various irregularities, including alleged paper leak, while the UGC-NET was cancelled after the education ministry received reports of compromise in the integrity of the exam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating both cases.

As a precautionary measure, two other exams, CSIR-UGC NET and NEET-PG, were cancelled.
