(DBT-RA) in Biotechnology & Life Sciences 2024-25/ Call I

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of “DBT-Research Associateship” to carry out research in frontier areas of biotechnology and life sciences. The Associateship is valid at premier research institutes/universities including non-profit R&D institutions within India. The Associateship is awarded under the “DBT-Research Associateship” program supported by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Objective of the Fellowship

The DBT-Research Associateship (DBT-RA) programme aims to train and nurture young researchers, scientists and create a critical mass of trained manpower in advanced areas of biology and biotechnology and build a strong postdoctoral base for the development of biotechnology sectors in the country.

eligibility criteria

educational qualification: Applicants must possess a PhD degree in Science, Engineering or an MD/MS degree in any discipline.

Applicants with research interest in biotechnology and life sciences and having a graduate degree in the field of medicine with good academic record are also eligible to apply. Applicants who have already submitted PhD/MD/MS thesis are also eligible to apply. However, such applicants, if selected, will be awarded a lower fellowship amount until they obtain an eligible degree.

Age Range: The upper age limit is 40 years for male candidates and 45 years for female candidates as on the last date of application.

employmentApplicants who are employed (in any capacity such as permanent, contractual etc.) at the time of application are eligible to apply. However, they must leave their job to accept the fellowship.

Tenure of Fellowship

The Associateship is a purely temporary full-time assignment and is valid for a period of 02 years, which is renewed annually based on a review of the research progress. In exceptional cases, the Fellowship can be extended up to 04 years based on the progress of research.

general guidelines

  • A candidate can avail the benefit of DBT-RA Fellowship only once in his/her career.
  • This fellowship is valid only in any recognized academic institute, national laboratories and other recognized R&D institutes in India. The host institute has to provide administrative and infrastructural support.
  • Fellows are not permitted to work with their PhD guide/co-guide.
  • Fellowship cannot be availed from the same institution from where the candidate has obtained the PhD/MD/MS degree.
  • A mentor cannot have more than 2 DBT-RA fellows at a time.
  • The Consultant should hold a regular academic/research position at a recognized institution in India, and possess a PhD/MD/MS degree in Science, Engineering or Medicine.
  • Retired professors (e.g., honorary professors, emeritus professors/scientists, and DBT distinguished professors) can also offer guidance, provided they can demonstrate that resources and laboratories are available to them.
  • Applicants from the North Eastern Region (permanent residence located in the North-East region) can work in any University/Institute in the country.
  • Research grants under the programme may be used for small equipment, consumables, incidental expenses, and domestic travel.

how to apply

  • Application for DBT-RA programme can be submitted through online mode only.
  • An applicant must submit only one (01) application. If it is found that more than one application has been submitted by an applicant, his/her application will be disqualified from the call.
  • To apply, interested applicants please visit the DBT-RA online portal https://ra.dbtindia.gov.in/ Or https://fellowships.gov.in/,
  • Applicants have to register on DBT-RA online portal, fill in complete details in the online application form and submit it before the last date of application.
  • The online application form to be filled by the applicant will contain personal information, academic qualifications, research contributions, referee details, proposed research work, proposed mentor details and information regarding the proposed host institution.
  • Documents to be submitted along with the online application form include –
    1. Self-attested PDF copy of DOB certificate
    2. Self-attested PDF copies of degree certificates
    3. Consent letter from the guardian. (The format of the consent letter is available on the DBT-RA portal.)
  • Applicants must provide the names and contact details of referees when completing the application form.
  • While submitting the online application form, an email with a link to submit the recommendation letters will be sent to the email addresses of all the referees mentioned in the application form by the applicant.
  • The referee must upload the PDF copy of the recommendation letter on the portal by August 07, 2024. The applicant must ensure that the referee provides the recommendation letter on time. Recommendation letters uploaded on the portal after the last date of application will not be accepted.
  • Application form not submitted through DBT-RA online portal will not be accepted.
