West Bengal Board Class 11 Statistics Syllabus 2024-25: The course overview of WBCHSE Class 11 Statistics syllabus states that, ”Nowadays, Statistics has become a compulsory subject in every sphere of life, especially in the fields of engineering, commerce, industry, agriculture, bio-technology, education, economics, physical sciences and social sciences. Most of the topics will help HS students in their All India entrance examinations and entrance examinations of reputed institutes. Not only this, students who are willing to pursue their studies in basic sciences will also get a lot of help.” The council has released the latest syllabus for class 11 students for the academic session 2024-25. Here we have provided the WBCHSE Class 11 Statistics syllabus in downloadable format, which is PDF.

West Bengal Board Class 11 Statistics Syllabus 2024-25

Semester 1

Unit 1 Introduction: Meaning of Statistics, Nature of Statistics, Importance of Statistics, Relationship with some allied subjects, Uses of Statistics, Misuse of Statistics.

Types of data: Primary and secondary data, quantitative data and qualitative data, discrete data and continuous data, time series, spatial series data and cross-sectional data, ordinal data and nominal data, illustration with examples.

unit 2 Data Collection: Questionnaire and its basic features, Definition of schedule and pilot survey, Designing of questionnaire and schedule, Concept of outliers.

Data checking: checking for internal consistency and detecting errors in collection and recording.

Unit 3 Presentation of Data: Textual Representation, Tabular Representation, Diagrammatic Representation (Line Diagram, Multi Axis Diagram and Multiple Line Diagram), Bar Diagrams (Horizontal and Vertical Bar Diagram, Multiple and Split Bar Diagram), Pie Diagram.

unit 4 Frequency distribution, cumulative frequency distribution and their graphical representation (column diagram, phase diagram, ogive, histogram, different types of frequency curves, stem and leaf diagram).

unit 5 Official Statistics: Structure and activities of some organisations (NSSO, CSO, DGCSIR, Labour Borough, Agricultural Statistics, MoSPI).

unit 6 Concept of central tendency and its measures with properties including AM≥GM≥HM.

Unit 7 Index Numbers: Definition of index number, types of index numbers (price index, volume index, value index), construction of price index number and its uses, different price index formulae (Laspeyers, Paasche, Edgeworth-Marshall and Fisher), tests of consistency (time reversal test and factor reversal test).

Semester 2

Unit 1 Measures of dispersion: Range, mean deviation, standard deviation, quartile deviation, coefficient of variation, quantiles and percentiles, along with relationship between various measures.

unit 2 Raw and central moments up to fourth order and their transformations, Cauchy-Schwartz inequality, Measures of skewness and kurtosis: various measures based on moments and quantiles (inequalities involving 𝑏1 and 𝑏2 coefficients).

Unit 3 Random experiments: sample space, notion of events and operations with events. Definition of probability: classical and relative frequency approaches to probability with limits. Axiomatic definition of probability (statements only) Theorem of total probability, Bonferroni’s inequality, Boole’s inequality. Compound probability, conditional probability and Bayes’ theorem, statistical independence of events (number of events not exceeding three) and related problems.

unit 4 Concept of polynomials, different forms of n-th degree polynomials related to two different interpolation formulas, remainder theorem. Concept of interpolation, Δ and E operators and their relations. Simple interpolation: Newton’s forward and backward interpolation formulas (without derivatives).

unit 5 Population Statistics: Introduction: Vital events, sources of data on vital events, rates and ratios of vital events. Measurement of mortality rate: CDR, SDR, STDR Measurement of fertility: CBR, GFR, ASFR, TFR Measurement of population growth: crude rate of natural increase and vital indices.
